This week, there are two new records in our red area; Cold by Stormzy, and Bad Boys by Stormzy ft. Ghetts & J Hus. Personally, I found Big For Your Boots a bit much in one go; there are two solutions to this, and Cold and Bad Boys are opposite solutions. Cold is a shorter track with red hot bars on a ice cold, almost hailstone-like beat; at just over two and a half minutes long, it's much more manageable. On the other hand, what Bad Boys lacks in brevity it more than makes up for in presentation; with Ghetts on the second verse and introductory rumble (the latter with Bashy) and J Hus on chorus, I would suggest that there is actually too much variety here although those listening via the album would have listened to First Things First and then Cold, so for those people it's probably about right.
These are both album tracks from his album Gang Signs & Prayer released last week, and they're in at #21 and #22 respectively (someone else is at #23); the entire album is within the top 100, with the last track, Little Titch, scraping in at #100. Although we are not in the business of producing album reviews – we prefer to review one record and then move into something else – eventually we will find ourselves reviewing a whole album due to its entirety turning up in the UK Top 100. That said, they did increase the number of streams necessary to constitute a sale a couple of months ago, and frankly if it wasn't for Ed Sheeran dropping his album this week we'd be happy to lay money on not having to do so for another few dozen issues.
