Words can't describe how simple yet brilliant this week's new red area penetrant Solo Dance by Martin Jensen (#12) is, but we'll try. Chatty-sounding vocals punctuate sunkissed synth lines abed a tropical sounding set of chords. Simple! Yet brilliant. Two remixes are on Spotify, by M-22 and Anton Powers respectively & M-22 adds a heavier bassline to it, while Powers adds an deeper house streak to it – and I wish the full versions of all three versions were on Spotify because not everyone likes to hear bare bones in the middle of a playlist. I also wish there was a third verse to it. That said, I've often had a theory that if you have a good record with a good chord progression and interesting vocals, the rest of the record can look after itself, and here I've been proved right. I wish him the best of luck, particularly given that me and him share a birthday (29 September, he in 1991, me in 1995) since I did a similar thing with Halsey when Closer came out (she was born 29 September 1994).
You wait ages for someone to die (not literally, of course, that would be horrible, even by this site's standards!) and two drop off within quick succession. Joni Sledge died on the 10th from natural causes – she was a fourth of Sister Sledge, best known for the Chic-produced hits We Are Family (#8, #33, #5 and #93), Lost in Music (#17, #4 and #14), Thinking Of You (#11 and #17) and their later chart topper Frankie – and John Lever passed away on the 13th following a short illness, he played on The Chameleons' Tears (#85) and Swamp Thing (#82).
